McDonalds Hall of Fame Wall
On Tuesday, May 19, 2009, MVP Pro Football Camps and McDonalds on Leicester Hwy in Asheville presented Erwin HS and Appalachian State University Alumni and standout John Holt the first Hall of Fame award. The award will be displayed on the newly created Hall of Fame Wall in the McDonalds dining area. The Hall of Fame Wall is the brainchild of MVP Pro Football Camps Directors and Founders David Johnson, Phillip Crosby and Randy Baynard. All three have extensive playing and coaching experience. David himself is a graduate of Erwin. He played in the NAIA national playoff system and coached in the national NAIA Bowl Championship. He has worked in the All American Football League with many NFL players and coaches. Phillip has won two SEC championships at the University of Tennessee and the BCS national championship in 1998. He played with the Buffalo Bills, New England Patriots and San Diego Chargers. Randy has over 20 years coaching experience at the high school and college level and has worked at numerous football camps across the US. "What we are trying to do is spotlight the accomplishments and achievements of guys like John in the hopes that other kids will be inspired and motivated to stay true to their dreams", said David. John played on the Appalachian State football team that won three national championships. He was voted All-American and Captain of the football team and graduated with honors and other awards. McDonalds is challenging other McDonalds locations in the area to start their own Hall of Fame Wall for schools in their locale to recognize the achievements of their athletes. MVP Pro Football Camps also presented a certificate of appreciation to McDonalds Managers Taletha "Tootie" Hyde and Melissa Shuler in recognition of their support for the Erwin district and the MVP Pro Football Camps program. MVP Pro Football Camps is hosting a 4 day, 3 night football camp in June at the Blue Ridge Assembly in Black Mountain for boys aged 8 to 18. Scheduled to appear at this years camp in addition to John Holt and Phillip Crosby is Robert Ford, three time Super Bowl Champion Dallas Cowboys coach, Clyde Christensen, one time Super Bowl winner and Assistant Head Coach with the Indianapolis Colts, and Brian Knight, former player with the Chicago Bears and Carolina Panthers and many more coaches and players.
